The Planetary Boundaries concept presents a set of boundaries within which humanity can continue to develop and thrive for generations to come In 2009 Johan Rockström, former centre director at the Stockholm Resilience Centre at the University of Stockholm, led a group of 28 internationally renowned scientists to identify the processes that regulate the stability and resilience of the Earth system.
Crossing these boundaries increases the risk of generating large-scale abrupt or irreversible environmental changes. Since then the planetary boundaries framework has generated enormous interest within science, policy, and practice.

We are an environmental charity with science at its heart. We drive the change needed to live within our means and in balance with nature. We do this by connecting people with the natural world, monitoring the health of our natural resources and informing the actions that will have the greatest positive impact.
